Ouch.
Photos of broken carbon fiber bicycle components.

I was sprinting through busy downtown San Jose traffic with a guy afixed gear when my seatpost went "ka-RACK." Fixie kid laughed. I mighthave said some naughty words.

Via a friend of a friend, he was riding behind this rider when he heard a loud crack, the rider was OK, no further info at this point.

Specialized broken in shipping.. whatever happened, the box wasn't even damaged

The poor guy who owns this Specialized Tri-Cross bike was descending a hill at speed when the fork suddenly snapped clean off at the crown! The guy was wearing a helmet luckily but told me that sometimes he doesn't bother! I reckon even as it was he is lucky to be alive! The bike in question was only six months old and had not been used off-road - in the way that the cyclo-cross style marketing of this model hints at. Only knows how long it might have lasted if it had been used off-road!!!! The guy took it straight to his dealer after talking to me and later commented that they'd taken it off him pretty quick! As an experienced mechanic I can honestly say that this is the scariest failure of a carbon fork to date!

Today in that crash, we had Sebastian Lang come down pretty hard and had to abandon. His bike was broken into three pieces... I was in front, but I think somebody hit a pothole and lost their grip and crashed.
While I do ride a carbon road bike, I wouldn't spend my own money on a carbon mountain bike. They seem disposable.
This is from the 2004 AIDS Lifecycle charity ride. With thousands of inexperienced cyclists, you know there is going to be crashes.
