Scott Scale Limited

Here is a Scott Scale Limited with this fracture, the frame simple broke in normal use. Sent to the store to evaluation, they refuse warranty just saying that the case was a "chain suck" and the rear derailleur shocked with the stay... no drop out broken, the owner just can not believe with the answer by the Scott!!

Crash During FBD Insurance Rás

Davie alerted me about a crash during the FBD Insurance Rás.

The race was stopped today and neutralised to the finish. A jeep pulled out on the race course and several riders heading the main bunch hit it head on, incurring injuries that put them out of the race.

Three competitors from the Spanish Burgos 2016-Castilla y Leon team plus an Italian rider with the Japan – Nippo squad were badly hurt and were taken to hospital after the dramatic incident, which happened on the descent after Bellavalley Gap and approximately 30 kilometres from the finish in Carrick on Shannon.

Busted Steerer Tube

I recently bought a frame that came with a full carbon fork (my first fork with a carbon steer tube!) Just got done building it up, and on the test ride the handlebars felt wiggly, so I took out the fork and removed the warning sticker to find this nasty crack. The seller and I missed it because it was under the sticker but it was obvious while riding. Anyone have a fork with a steel steer tube?

Via a friend of a friend, he was riding behind this rider when he heard a loud crack, the rider was OK, no further info at this point.

This bike has an MSRP of $7700, we are in a recession, who can afford this type of money for a disposable bike?

Broken LOOK HSC5 Fork

This is my LOOK HSC5 full carbon fork after impact with a tree at about 35km/h. My frame stayed together, thanks to Alloy Lugs (it's a 2003 KX Light). I can nearly guarantee a steel fork would have bent but not failed disastrously. Needless to say, a very expensive replacement is on order. The rest of the bike - absolutely no problem.

Crappy Fiber

Ron of Lugs Chicago sent me these photos. Ron's feeling towards carbon are much stronger than mine.

This unlucky fellow owned 2 Giant TCR-1s. This one cracked while crossing a railroad track that runs on an angle. Tracks were wet, kid went down, fork gave out. Knucklehead wants another. Won’t get it from us.

Be careful where you stand

This is my buddy's carbon van dessel rivit. He was on the sideline watching the finish of a race in Brooklyn. A crash at the finish line sent riders and bikes flying all over. One ended up flying into his seattube and leaving a nicel little dime sized hole.

That really sucks when somebody else breaks your bike.

Busted Ransom

This is my second failed Scott Ransom. The first one failed because the aluminum seat post corroded to the carbon resin and became immovable. Scott replaced that frame and seat post. The pictured failure occurred when bunny-hopping a water bar. I did not get more than a few inches off the ground. The bike is 4 years old now. We'll see if Scott will replace it this time.

Trek 9800 OCLV, only 10 rides old

While riding with my girlfriend in Arcadia RI. She grabbed a ¼” stick in her wheel and pulled it out. No biggie right? 5 minutes later she’s complaining that her bike “feels squishy in the back” I take a look.. & under the chainstay protector I find this..

What's the deal with Trek these days, they used to be so good with their warranties. Now I'm getting a lot of email with horror stories of Trek not standing behind their bikes.

I was on a ride when a bump in the road caused the cadence/speed sensor for my Edge 705 to come loose. Needless to say, it got sucked into the rear wheel and I lost about 4 spokes.
